ISMTA President-Elect

Dr. Janice Razaq, NCTM and Illinois State Certification Chair, was appointed to fill the vacated position of President-Elect in May 2011. Janice was voted upon for President by the general membership on November 11, 2011 at the ISMTA Conference. She will assume the position after the spring board meeting, April 29, 2012. Until that time, Helen Grosshans will continue to serve as ISMTA President
Illinois 2012 Foundation Fellows
Illinois is excited to announce its TWO Foundation Fellows for 2012. Phyllis Hill, active in both her local CAMTA and on the state board was nominated by the ISMTA board. Fran Onley, active in NWSMTA, was nominated by Northwest Suburban MTA. Both members will be honored at the Gala Dinner during the MTNA National Conference in New York City. Congratulations to these esteemed colleagues!
ISMTA District Competitions
ISMTA District Competitions will be held in each of the state's five districts during October. Categories include Elementary, Junior, Senior and Collegiate Piano; Elementary, Junior and Senior Piano Duet; Junior and Senior Strings; Junior and Senior Brass; Junior and Senior Woodwinds and Senior Voice.
First place district winners in all categories except those in Piano Duet and Elementary Piano move on to the ISMTA Finals Competitions held at the ISMTA Annual Conference on November 3-4 at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, IL.
One or more students in the Elementary Piano category of each district will be invited to perform in the Gold Star Recital which is also during the state conference.
ISMTA Finals and MTNA Competitions
Finals of ISMTA Competitions in Piano, Strings, Brass, Woodwinds and Voice will be held at the ISMTA Annual Conference on November 3 and 4, 2012, at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, IL.
MTNA Competitions, which all begin at the state level, will also be held at the ISMTA Annual Conference in Urbana-Champaign, IL on November 3-4, 2012. First place winners or designated representatives progress to the East Central Division Competitions which will take place in January 2013, at a location in Illinois TBD.
The Gold Star Recital, which features selected students from each district of the ISMTA Elementary Piano Competition, will be held at the ISMTA Conference at UIUC in Urbana-Champaign. Exact time and date is yet to be determined.
ISMTA Annual Conference
The 2012 State Conference will be held November 2-4, 2012, at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
The conference schedule with guest artist and guest clinician has not been announced. All sessions for teachers will be on Friday and Saturday. Student competitions will take place on Saturday and Sunday.
A call for proposals for other sessions has been sent out by Dr. Huei Li Chin, 1st Vice President/Conference. She may be contacted, for more information, at hchin15@yahoo.com. Deadline for submission of proposals is May 31, 2012.
